Odd, hooking it up to Ethernet seems to work. Well, at least for now, that will do.
(before mine got replaced) my old one used to do that too. not sure why, but ethernet always worked. :)
there are a billion other things to try - i am almost sure none of them will fix it though.

Now that was the second HD that she had crash on her with that macbook. Is this generally an issue for these?
The screen flickers, mostly after it wakes up or turns on for the first time. It flickered before I had the new HD in and installed snow leopard as well. From reading other posts, it seems like this may be the inverter board. Is that a hard fix?
OK...discuss. Thanks!
Hard disk - yes Apple had a recall for many of the MacBooks built around that time but hard disks fail on anything especially laptops ...
The screen flicker is more likely to be the inverter to logicboard cable - they fray - does it flicker when you move the screen up and down on it's hinges ??
If so it will be the cable -- instructions on ifixit.com

There is a better option that will let you automatically sync the contacts back and forth between your Mac and Gmail.
Open the address book application on your Mac and open the preferences. There's an option there to synchronize with Google. Enter your account info and you're all set. It takes a little while for the Mac to start the first sync. It'll perform it within an hour.
If you've already imported from Gmail the other way, delete the contacts from your local address book first to avoid strange conflicts. :-)

Today I got my first Mac, a Powermac G4. It has no DVD drive so I installed one from an old PC. The computer recognizes the drive and will play CDs from it, but it cannot read DVDs.
Is there an update that I can install to allow my G4 to read DVDs?
running OS X 10.3.9
trying to use Asus 16X max DVD-ROM
Thanks.

FWIW you can generally find a 2006/2007 iMac Core 2 Duo in full working condition cheaper than either a used mini or broken screen Macbook. ~$250-300.

No mention about safari or does that fall into the "catch all" browser category. Well it's good to hear that people are making the right choices. If IE was a good product, then I wouldn't bash it ... but it is, and I am.
For windows, Firefox is much better than IE: Hands down.

Hi to everyone !
I am new here so please excuse me if i do a mistake .
So i have a problem. I have broken my iphone's glass . Not only it was broken but the touch screen stopped working (from the top left to the bottom) . Yesterday i changed the digitizer+outter glass by my self but the touch still dont want to work. Any suggestions what might be the problem ?
Thank you !
few possibility problem,
1. You received a defective digitizer.
2. Your digitizer connection got loose when you put everything back together.
3. They sent you the 3gs digitizer instead of 3g.
open it p and make sure the connection is tight.

It would be far easier to bypass the router completely. What could be happening is that the router isn't able to (or needs to be refreshed) get internet information from your Mac. Login to your router and see what IP information it's pulling.

I should be getting my new iBook this Monday. I have been reading through these forums about things I should get. I have found some great advice, and some confusion on some things.
Yesterday I order a Screensavrz (http://www.radtech.us) from Radtech. I plan to get some iKlear when I pickup my iBook, along with a sleeve.
One problem I have been reading about is the problem with palm "marks" on the palm rests of iBooks. I was looking at Wrist Rugs (http://www.powersupportusa.com/products/rr.php?category=pb) but they are like $30 shipped. I have about people using PDA protectors. What is the best option?
And is there anything else that is recommended to get? Thanks for your help.
I am also new to the apple thing.
I just got an ibook 14" and it ROCKS. I also got the sleeve, and the spray... I think everybody does at first when facing the fact of keeping this pure white notebook clean... don't worry about the palms though.
After a while you relax a little, and realise that yes, it IS white, but it's not soooo difficult to clean.
I have had mine for around 5 months now... and it still looks fresh from the box, and I smoke over the thing, use it on the train and metro, etc...
Just, get the spray, as the screen is a toughy to keep clean, and ENJOY!!!

(Note: Don't take the hood off a monitor and start poking around inside unless you are conversant with high voltage safety precautions or have a paid up life insurance policy. Those puppies have enough juice to stun a horse in them even when unplugged.)
Very good, sound advice. That being said I have salvaged many a discarded monitor doing little more than a degauss and adjusting the flyback transformer(the dangerous part.) I have heard that there is enough "zap" inside to send a man clear across the room.

Hate to say it, but with older IDE drives, some clicks are nothing to be concerned about. However, if the click is is followed with kernel panics and things of that nature? I would agree the drive might be going south. www.ifixit.com has a great guide on a tear down, and replacement drives are easily sourced and cheap. www.geeks.com and www.newegg.com are great places to start.

This is a fictional switch story, based on what could happen in reality.
I have been using PC's since i was two years old. I loved how they worked. That was until Windows XP came out. That disgustingly buggy OS which caught a virus a week, killing off my files like shoppers do to end-of-season sales.
My school computers have always been PC's, and we are using old IBM POS's. Well, lucky for me, i just happened to do what I had always wanted to do.....
My friend and i were discussing our life dreams. His, being shallow, was to Xerox his butt. Mine, being slightly less shallow, was to throw a school computer out a window and see the horrified look on the librarian's face before she screeched.
Well, my friend came into school one day and said "hehe, I accomplished my dream... omg I Xeroxed my BUTT!"
It was then my turn.
That awful laptop crashed for the fourth time during Word processing, and that's when I'd had just about enough. I picked up the computer in a rage, quickly opened the second story window and tossed it to the concrete floor below.
My librarian had that same look of horror i had pictured, and I just had to catch it on my camera phone. It was brilliant, and i'd post it today, but her face is too horrible to look at. Oh fine, I'll post it:
*censored for your sanity and eyesight, and in case you have a mirror in the room*
Well, you want to know what i told her? I told her that her face looked like the blue screen of death, and that it matched the computer. you know what she said? "I have always wanted to do that, you are my hero!"
Next week, our school got a grant for macs. And my parents bought me an iBook. No more blue screens of death, only the blue screen of aquatic function. How soothing.

I am getting the White 64GB Verizon 3G model
Nice. I notice that you have the 3G iPad currently. Are you switching to Verizon because you've had issues with AT&T in LV?

I've just mentioned this to my girlfriend, who works for HM Revenue and Customs, and her response was "I'm not surprised."
She does, however, maintain that this wasn't her fault.
