At the end of May, Don Wales set a new world land speed record for a ride-on lawnmower racing a modified machine called Project Runningblade up to a top speed of 87.833 mph or 141.235 km/h at Pendine Sands - and this here is the video from the event.
The previous speed record for a ride-on lawnmower of 80.792 mph or 129.91 km/h was set by Bob Cleveland on a home-built grass-cutter in 2006 at Bonneville Flats, USA.
The new 'King of Speed', Don Wales, carries on a long family tradition as he is the nephew of Donald Campbell who broke eight world speed records in the 1950s and 60s and remains the only person to set both land and water speed records in the same year (1964), and the grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell, holder of 13 world speed records in the 1920s and 30s in the celebrated Bluebird cars and boats.
And it's still not over for Wales who claims that the Runningblade can cut grass at even higher speeds stating that the next goal is to accelerate past the 100mph or 160km/h mark.
