In 2004 Lamborghini's head design engineer (1998-2005) Luc Donckerwolke, who was responsible for the Gallardo, Diablo, and Murcielago series, went to work on designing the future look of the luxury sport car brand. When Donckerwolke sat down to draw he had no idea he would change the face of Lamborghini forever, and improve a brand that is already at the top of it's market.

It all started or ended (depending on your tastes) with the unnamed car. A tribute to racing history, when there were 2 racers. A pilot and a co-pilot. Using the frame of the first Gallardo and what I guess would be many, many hours of watching old Batman and Robin reruns from the 60s, the side by side dual cockpit known as "Concept S" was born.

In 2005 the concept was released to the world at the Geneva Car Show. The judges and crowd were impressed. It wasn't something new and unique. It was just something new for Lamborghini. It showed the world there was more to Lamborghini then the Countach. Die hard originals weren't so sure however.

After a few (so modest) awards the head designer and his team went back to work. The Gallardo SE was put into production, along with other models that made it past the concept phase. But worked continued on the unnamed car. It was finally released in 2009, still with no name. In the world of Lamborghini it was a failure and the end of Luc Donkerwolke's career. Though it was award winning it was not approved by the public. Lamborghini stated it would not put it into full production because it represented the past, and the brand was about the future. Good call.

Whether you love it or despise it, it deserves recognition. I for one am not impressed with this design. You can't call yourself a designer if you're just remaking what has already been done. But to attempt to change the face of the best of the best takes guts. It was all wrong, but a valiant effort. (source: http://www.lamborghini.com)
